The first Borneo International Trade Fair (BITF 2007) held two years ago achieved an unprecedented success through massive participation nd support of local companies and the BIMP-EAGA region. The 4-day multisectoral trade fair involved more than 150 participants from various industries and countries.
This year, held for the second time, with the theme "Your Ultimate Destination for Business, Culture and Nature", BITF2009 is the most exciting event in the region attracting distributors, wholesalers, retailers, value added resellers, government agencies, trade organizations, embassies, corporate, business communities and end users. Once again, the city of Kota Kinabalu has been chosen as the host venue. Officially known as "Nature Resort City", Kota Kinabalu offer visitors an array of uniquely distinctive cultures and at the same time experience the rich diversity of flora and fauna.
Because of Sabah's strategic central location in the East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and given its natural resources and strategically positioned capabilities, BITF also aims to increase the competitiveness of the SMEs in the region. It is designed to provide a wide range of interaction among stakeholders focusing on the investment potentials and opportunities in order to foster partnership and co-operation in trade and investments and at the same time, challenge key players to come up with strategic ideas and propose projects that can develop the potential for increased economic interface with the BIMP-EAGA Economic Corridors, namely the Western Borneo Economic Corridor (WBEC) and the Greater Sulu Sulawesi Corridor (GSSC) towards greater integration of economies in the sub-region.
BITF2009 is also a platform that will showcase the Sabah State Government's ongoing efforts in the implementation of the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) as a thrust to spur investments and developments on the promoted sectors under the SDC which are agriculture, tourism, logistic services and manufacturing.
Participants that are expected in this event include companies from China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Phillipines, Brunei, Vietnam, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and other countries.
